"Lil Lil Land (painted in 2013) was inspired by my daughter's figurine collection. From the time she was less than a year old, she would marvel at the tiny animals when we held her up to the shadow box. When she began grabbing at them, we would give her a few to handle on the floor. Over time, we gave her more and more to play with. Early on, when she wanted to play with them, she'd cry, "Lil Lil!" One of the figurines was a little blonde girl. I positioned that character in the middle of the painting, because she is also symbolic of my daughter, sitting in her wonderland of assorted fantasy friends."
